My first port of call was my reference books.
Initially, I examined the Italian Army for the period between 1808 and 1815. I then turned to the French, Austrian, Prussian, British and Russian armies. Essentially, I was getting a feel for period’s military style that would forn the basis for the design of the uniforms.
